One of the supposed benefits of a presidential running mate is their ability to deliver a state. A well-chosen VP candidate, the theory goes, can turn a swing state or neutralize an opponent’s advantage; at the very least, it can force your opponent to spend more time and money in a state they may have thought in the bag.
This theory is not working out well for Mitt Romney, who has yet to see any of his potential running mates improve his polling in their home states.
