BREAKING: Barack Obama To Win Democratic Nomination

Democrats are on the verge of nominating a young African American lawmaker named Barack “Hussein” Obama to their 2012 ticket, an unorthodox and daring response to the GOP’s selection of shapeshifting business shark Mitt Romney…Read More

Poll: Americans Down on the Supreme Court, Gas Prices

We’ve hashed out the main takeaways from the ABC News/Washington Post poll, but buried a bit further down are some interesting findings on Americans’ view of the Supreme Court and Barack Obama’s handling of gas prices.

First of all, because nobody, including Obama, can just wait until the Supreme Court hands down its decision on Obamacare, we have this…Read More

Will the Pennsylvania Primary Help the GOP in November?

As much as Romney may hate the next three weeks, the ground base he prepares (and that Rick Santorum prepares, as many of Santorum’s voters and volunteers will transfer over to Mitt in the general, no matter how much they don’t want to) will be crucial in the fall. He has every reason now to put time and money into the state. The question is whether three weeks of dogged campaigning will make up for the Obama campaign’s 14-office head start…Read More

Obama: GOP Budget is a “Trojan Horse” for Social Darwinism

Still, this is Obama’s most direct and explicit attack on the GOP’s main narrative in a while. Many of Obama’s recent election-minded moves have been cautious manuevers to get ahead of the gas price debate or prime an attack on the Supreme Court in the case of their overruling the Affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, Democrats have been salivating for a chance to go after Romney and the GOP over income inequality and their starve-the-beast austerity policies that vacuum income up to the wealthy. Obama’s speech this afternoon may be the opening salvo of that charge, and it’s entirely possible that we will look back in the fall and see the general election as having begun today…Read More

Obama Strong And Growing Stronger In Key Battleground State Of Ohio

Real Clear Politics contributor Erin McPike published a piece on Monday detailing President Obama’s reelection team at work in Ohio. Her portrayal of Obama’s ground team in the Buckeye State in McPike’s “In Ohio, Obama’s Organization Is Outpacing GOP’s,” Obama’s team is shown as organized, ubiquitous and effective. Over the weekend, a poll by NBC News/Marist shows the early efforts are paying off in Ohio where likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney trails Obama by double digits…Read More

If Republican Primary Hurts GOP Brand, Obama’s Continued Vulnerability Should Terrify Democrats

You can feel the conventional wisdom congealing into a Jell-O mold of quadrennial like-think amongst media personalities: the contentious Republican primary is forcing candidates to take positions outside the national mainstream, hurting the party’s brand and the eventual presidential nominee; by wild extension, the primary may even doom the party’s chances in down ballot races. It’s a tiringly predictable accusation, and one that is never reciprocally applied to Democrats when they suffer through a contested presidential primary. But if this is the case, Obama’s continued vulnerability and a lack of approval for Congressional Democrats should terrify the party. If the GOP brand is so tarnished as to be unelectable, the Democrats have done irreparable damage to their own brand when they were entrusted with both majorities in the two chambers of Congress and the White House…Read More

Wisconsin Democrats Submit 1 Million Signatures To Recall Scott Walker

Don’t write Walker off yet, though: the Democrats still have not settled on a candidate of their own, and it’s much easier to rile up protest signatures than to get out the vote. Two of the four Republican senators challenged in last fall’s recall efforts survived, suggesting that however energizing the issues involved may be, the elections themselves are still subject to the standard forces of district politics…Read More

Details Of Democratic Convention Emerge: Grandeur Of 2008 Without The Greek Columns

Recall the 2008 Democratic convention in Denver, Colorado. The majesty, the symbolism, the infectious enthusiasm of the throngs crowding into an open air stadium to hear Obama accept a hard-fought presidential nomination; the power of the moment accentuated by the future president alone and framed by a background of Doric columns. One might think that a humbling four years later, the president would prefer a more modest tone as he accepts his party’s nomination for reelection, perhaps reflecting the austerity that the nation at large has embraced – nope!…Read More
